Abstract

The transformation of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) towards a green education paradigm constitutes a strategic imperative in addressing the global ecological crisis. This study aims to analyze the integration of Islamic values with ecological consciousness and to formulate a transformative framework for sustainability-oriented PAI pedagogy. Employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method integrated with a narrative review, this research scrutinizes selected literature published between 2015 and 2025. The findings reveal that Islam provides a robust theological and ethical foundation for environmental education, as embodied in the concepts of Tawhid, Khalifah, Amanah, and the proscription against Al-Fasad. Nevertheless, its implementation within contemporary PAI instructional practices remains largely confined to the cognitive-normative domain, constrained by insufficient curricular integration, limitations in educator competency, and a lack of contextual pedagogical approaches. Derived from these findings, this study proposes a structured integrative model comprising four pillars cosmological, ethical-amanational, normative-prohibitive, and pedagogical-transformational to serve as a conceptual reference for curriculum development, enhancement of teacher capacity, and the innovation of project-based learning coupled with ecological reflection. The transformation of PAI towards green education is anticipated to not only augment students' ecological literacy but also cultivate a Muslim character that perceives environmental preservation as an inherent component of religious devotion (ibadah) and a tangible manifestation of their responsibility as khalifah fi al-ardh.
