Abstract

Innovative and relevant approaches to Islamic Education (PAI) in the digital era, with a focus on transforming learning strategies through collaborative approaches and virtual classroom digitization. This transformation is a strategic necessity to address technological developments, where PAI is required not only to master religious knowledge but also to possess digital competence. Relevant learning models must be able to integrate Islamic values into real-life contexts, in line with the spirit of the Kurikulum Merdeka (Independent Curriculum) which emphasizes Project-Based Learning and instructional differentiation. This study uses a qualitative approach with a literature research method to systematically analyze contemporary literature (2015–2025). The results of the analysis indicate that cooperative learning within a virtual classroom format successfully increases cooperation and collective responsibility among students. The application of techniques such as Think-Pair-Share and Jigsaw, facilitated by digital platforms like Google Classroom, can overcome the limitations of conventional methods and instill Islamic values such as ta’awun (mutual assistance). The digitalization of PAI also brings a shift in the role of the teacher from a conveyor of knowledge to a facilitator and spiritual guide, who is required to possess adequate digital pedagogical competence. However, challenges such as limited facilities, lack of training, and the risk of weakening moral-spiritual aspects due to the use of technology (such as Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence) remain obstacles.
